Online Safety

Digital technology is very much part of everyday life and children are spending more time than ever online. Internet access provides many opportunities but unfortunately presents many potential risks. Also, with new apps, games and platforms emerging everyday, it can be difficult to keep up and stay safe.

Online safety at Stoke Heath is about enabling our school community to benefit as much as possible from the opportunities provided by the internet and the technologies we use in everyday life. It is not just about identifying and avoiding associated risks. It is about ensuring everyone has the chance to develop a set of safe and responsible behaviours that will enable them to reduce the risks whilst continuing to benefit from the opportunities.

At Stoke Heath, we use Impero to monitor the internet access of all IT users, including staff and children. You can find out more information in our Online Safety Policy.

The 4 C’s of Online Safety

The risks associated with being online relate to conduct, content, contact, and commerce. Teachers address these issues through our computing curriculum and RSE and health education curriculum. Opportunities are also made to discuss current online safety concerns with the children as and when they occur.

Our Online Safety lessons are based on the 8 topics outlined in the UKCIS “Education for a Connected World” Framework:

  • Self-Image and Identity

  • Online Relationships

  • Online Reputation

  • Online Bullying

  • Managing Online Information

  • Health, Wellbeing and Lifestyle

  • Privacy and Security

  • Copyright and Ownership

IT Acceptable Use Agreement

We want all of members of Stoke Heath to learn how to be responsible and respectful digital citizens. We have an IT Acceptable Use Agreement, which is linked to our school values, that is shared with the children and their parents/carers. It is differentiated for each phase.
